Aim

To provide an overview of the conventional and biological approaches to management of carious primary molars

Objectives

  • To explore the use of stainless steel crowns in the management of carious primary molars, including both conventional placement and the Hall technique
  • To consider the importance of history-taking, as well as clinical and radiographic examination in treatment planning for carious primary molars
  • To demonstrate the clinical techniques involved in placement of stainless steel crowns on primary molars and completion of pulpotomy in primary molars, followed by participant undertaking techniques in a simulation setting

Learning Outcomes

  • To have an awareness of conventional and biological approaches to management of carious primary molars
  • To be able to assess and diagnose pulpal status of a carious primary molar
  • To be able to place stainless steel crowns on primary molars using the conventional approach and the Hall technique
  • To be able to carry out a pulpotomy in a primary molar
